Within the R&D department “Cement Differentiation”, the Mining & Soil remediation R&D engineer will join a project team dedicated to the development of innovative solutions for mining activities and more generally soil remediation (backfilling, ore treatment for extraction of metals, mineral treatment of tailings, remediation of soils and mining residues), in a typical timeframe of 2 to 5 years before the solution is transferred to the market.



Your responsibilities

  • Analyze mining operations or soil remediation complex specifications and elaborate R&D programs to develop innovative solutions for the same.
  • Initiate, structure and lead R&D studies related to mining and particularly on soil treatment.
  • You will also define and carry out the associated laboratory research programs, and formulate binders and solutions for mining operations and soil remediation. These studies often require the development of innovative lab methods.
  • Closely collaborate with the LH Mining network (laboratories are based e.g. in Canada and Mexico), take part in the relationship with local stakeholders and customers.
  • Ensure a scientific and technological watch in your domain of expertise.
  • Organize strong written and oral communication around in your domain both internally and externally.
  • Provide technical support, including technical training, to LafargeHolcim operations.



  • Ph.D. in materials science / inorganic chemistry, with expertise in the mining industry / cement - soil interactions / organo-mineral interactions.
  • Proven experience (typically 2 years) in innovation and product development in the industry will be appreciated.
  • M.Sc. degree will also be considered, depending on experience and background.


  • At least 2 years of professional experience in mining activities, using binders, and / or soil remediation techniques using mineral compounds.
  • International background is a must with an experience abroad; English is mandatory, Spanish would be an advantage.

  • Solid knowledge in soil / organics / mineral binders interactions.
  • Taste for innovation, experience in management of laboratory work. Ability to develop new experimental methods.

  • Team spirit, with other researchers, engineers and technicians.
